Students with the Sisters of the Holy Cross

Holy Cross Day is an important day both to the Sisters of the Holy Cross and LOTAs. It is filled with entertaining activities and a very special Mass to honor the Sisters that founded the Academy. This year four sisters joined Holy Cross for the celebration. At the conclusion of the Mass, Holy Cross announced a donation of $1,000 to the sisters for their work.

Holy Cross celebrates Mass on this day because it is the Feast Day of the Holy Cross. This feast is a remembrance of salvation from Jesus’s death on the cross and His resurrection.

Sister Kathy Johnson stated “The feast is meaningful with great devotion.” The Brothers of the Holy Cross and Sisters are very open to compassion. Sister Johnson’s grade school experiences made her want to consider a vocation. During her junior and senior year of high school she became very involved in the sisters. Sister Johnson is a retired faculty member from The Academy.

Also joining the school for the Mass, Sister Ruth Marie Nickerson was a part of the second graduating class here, class of ’61. She was involved in peer ministry during her time at The Academy. Sister Ruth Marie was a former board member for the Sisters.

Sister Adria Connors was a faculty member here at The Academy of the Holy Cross. Although she has since retired, Sister Adria is still very involved in the Holy Cross community. She is one of the board members of the Sisters of the Holy Cross.

The fourth guest at the Mass, Sister Mary Tiernan is not retired. She currently works as Holy Cross Hospital. While working at the hospital she always prays that everyone gets healthy.

Following the Holy Cross Mass students had fun participating in Holy Cross Day.
