Students at The Academy of the Holy Cross celebrated Holy Cross Day on September 21, 2018 to show their school pride.

This tradition has continued for many years and is a highlight of the year for many students.

Freshman Liza Itskovich said her first Holy Cross Day was “thrilling and tons of fun.” She continued that she “had such a good time getting ready with her advisory and loved playing in the games.”

The freshman and juniors decked out in white while the sophomores and seniors wore purple.

To start off the festivities, all of the students gathered in the commons for pizza and the famous sign giving and receiving. The senior class makes hundreds of signs for the freshman to wear around their necks.

The freshman and sophomores competed against each other, and the seniors took on the juniors in many games on the upper turf. Musical chairs, three legged races, and water balloon tosses were some of the fun games.

To end the great day, there was an epic game of tug-a-war. First up was 2022 vs. 2021. The freshman took a surprising win over the sophomores. Next 2020 gave 2019 a run for their money but could not seem to take the win over the seniors. As the two winners from the previous rounds, freshman attempted to battle the seniors. Within several seconds the students of 2022 were all on the ground. Finaly, the AHC faculty to their places against the dominant seniors. It was a good try, but, of course, the all-powerful seniors won the tug-a-war.

Senior Sydney Parbs shared “I love Holy Cross day because even if the glitter fades away, the memories never will” when prompted about how she felt about her last Holy Cross Day as a LOTA.
