The annual Honor Societies Induction Ceremony at Holy Cross is held each spring. This formal event takes place in the theater, where students are inducted into the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, Le Société Honoraire de Français, National Latin Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, and the Computer Science Honor Society, new this school year.
There was a lot of preparation that happened behind the scenes in order for the event to go smoothly. Details were led by Sarah Chase, the moderator for the National Honor Society.
“We have to make a reservation for the theater. We had to order cookies,” Chase laughed. “We worked together with all the honor society sponsors.”
The induction ceremony was supposed to be on April 10, but the date was changed to April 29 to combine scholar events.
“Normally there are two ceremonies: one for the honor societies and one for Madeleva and Santa Crux scholars,” Chase explained the change in dates. “Since both are so similar, instead of asking parents to come twice, and since so many girls are in the honor societies and the scholars programs, it just made sense to do it together.”
When it comes to deciding which students will be chosen to apply to be a part of an honor society, the rules differ depending on the honor society.
“Each honor society has its own standards. The only one I can speak for is the National Honor Society,” Chase informed. “For the National Honor Society, a 3.5 GPA and you can’t have a current honor board violation.”
Now that they are officially inducted, students have expressed their excitement about this accomplishment.
“I’m excited to be in the math honor society for the next couple of years and continue to grow in my math skills,” sophomore Keira Balaguer shared.
Balaguer was inducted into Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. It took dedication and perseverance.
“I think it took a lot of time for studying and working hard to understand the material,” Balaguer reflected.
Many students want to be admitted into an honor society, but it is not an easy task to achieve. It takes time, determination, and hard work to get to this goal. This might leave students wondering what they can do so they can be inducted next school year. Junior Jordyn Cabellon was inducted into the National Honor Society and Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica and shared a suggestions for any students hoping to be accepted.
“Just stay on top of your work,” Cabellon advised. “Don’t fall behind on service and leadership opportunities. That’s a huge part of it.”
