It is now time for the juniors to take the lead as the school’s upperclassmen as the seniors say goodbye to Holy Cross. As the class of 2024 leaves its mark, the class of 2025 has been waiting for this time to come.
Gabby Hill, the executive board president for the next school year, is looking forward to the many advantages that only seniors can get.
“I’m excited that we will finally be able to be almost like the ‘top dogs of the school.’ It is nice to finally have some freedom which is great!” Hill commented.
Along with Hill, many of her classmates are eager for their senior year and all the benefits that come with it. The excitement for their final year of high school is obvious as they have been anticipating it.
“I’m looking forward to senior year because there are some privileges that we didn’t get in our junior year, so now we have that,” Hill mentioned.
There are plenty of classes to choose from for a LOTA’s final year at Holy Cross, now that majority of the requirements are filled by this time, as some academic offerings are exclusive to seniors.
“There is more academic freedom to choose classes that you want to pick—choosing that will help you with your major and be able to study things that you want to and will be relevant to you in college,” Hill expressed.
There also comes many traditions that only seniors get to participate in, such as senior courtyard, senior jerseys, and senior stage. These are just a few of the things that students look forward to when their time comes.
“I am looking forward to the short walk from the senior lot to school—instead of having to walk what feels like a mile from the junior lot, ” junior Delaney Single mentioned.
Many in the class of 2025 agree that driving in is less stressful now that they have moved from the junior driveway to the senior lot. Given this new privilege, the change offers a shift in many of these LOTAs’ morning routines and schedules.
“It’s great, because we do not have to walk a mile to our spots anymore and I can get to school at 7:50 and not be late, and not have to be at the top of the parking lot because there’s so many people parked,” Hill also explained. “It gives me time to stop at Starbucks before class.”
The senior stage is another tradition, or privilege, that is enjoyed and adored by seniors. Seniors get exclusive use of this stage as it is decorated with posters, couches, and chairs.
“One thing I love about the stage is that it allows for everyone to be so bonded together,” senior Kathryn O’Boyle described.
Because the stage provides a sense of cohesion and community, LOTAs can develop as a class regardless of how close they are to one another or whether they really know each other before.
“It brings us all together, no matter who is up there. All of us talk to each other, hang out, study, play music, and my favorite especially are the dance parties,” O’Boyle mentioned. “I love to just get up and dance around to let all my energy out.”
The class of 2025 is thrilled and eager to make the most of their last year and the memories created at Holy Cross, as they embrace being a senior soon.
