The AHC Seniors are nearing graduation, and their high school sports journeys are coming to an end. Being on the AHC athletic teams takes a lot of dedication and effort, learning lifelong skills in teamwork and personal character growth.
The start of the spring sports season began with tryouts and team placement, leading to practices everyday outdoors in this spring weather to train and compete in the WCAC. Seniors start their seasons embarking on the transition they will soon have to make to college, away from their close-knit Holy Cross sports team. From long nights to bus rides, the Holy Cross seniors hold the responsibility of now leading their spring sports team that they will soon leave behind.
“I have been at Holy Cross for four years and I have been doing lacrosse as my spring sport since freshman year,” senior lacrosse defender Adore Bryant explained. “This year would have to be my favorite because of the community because it brings me overall joy knowing that my confidence has not only grown as a player but a LOTA [Lady of the Academy].”
The Lacrosse team created many memories and team bonding experiences over the past years, as well as connecting with teammates.
“I decided to participate in a spring sport, specifically lacrosse, to stay active and connect with my classmates, including people I would not usually speak to,” Bryant recalled. “My favorite moment from lacrosse season this year would be team bonding when the team and I had breakfast together after a Saturday morning practice.”
Being a part of a spring sport during the last year of high school brings many fun moments.
“It’s a ton of fun to be overseeing the seniors in their spring sports for the last time,” Athletic Director Kelly Flaherty mentioned. “It feels amazing to watch these seniors exude their talents on the field or track.”
With spring sports being the last sports season for seniors, they have to work that much harder to make a lasting impact and impression on the other girls on the teams.
“I am extremely happy to see where the spring sports programs have come, and I will definitely like to see the success of the young ladies under the seniors after they watch their legacy.” Flaherty mentioned.
Spring sports are a time to prepare for college athletically and mentally, with the huge character aspect of sports in general. It is endless time with the same people, with practice being a time to decompress and live in the moment.
“I love working hard to win with my team, but I’m going to be very sad when I have to leave,” senior lacrosse attacker Katie Hite exclaimed. “I am going to miss my teammates and coaches because we had so many funny memories from practice.”
Team members become close during spring sports. There is hard effort to win, creating strong bonds.
“I love my senior friends on the team. I’m glad that we all stuck with lacrosse since freshman year,” Hite proudly shared. “It makes leaving so much harder though because I’ll miss all the hard work we have put in to make each other better.”
